Daegu Day Trip from Busan: Exploring the City on the Daegu City Tour Bus

Daegu day trip from Busan: Daegu City Tour Bus stops, fares, schedules, autumn scenery, KTX travel tips, and practical advice for first-time visitors.

Whenever I visit South Korea, I love finding ways to explore beyond Seoul and Busan. Since I was staying in Busan, I decided to squeeze in a day trip to Daegu. It was an easy addition to my itinerary, with a KTX ride to Dongdaegu Station taking around 45-60 minutes on many services.

Because I only had a day to explore, I wanted to see as much of Daegu as possible without spending too much time figuring out public transportation. My solution? The Daegu City Tour Bus.

From the open-top bus seats and city streets to the autumn foliage lining the roads and parks, the ride itself became part of the experience. Here’s how I explored Daegu in a day, plus some practical information if you’re planning to do the same.

Why I Took a Day Trip to Daegu

Daegu is one of those destinations that can easily be overlooked when planning a South Korea trip, especially when most itineraries revolve around Seoul and Busan. But since I was already staying in Busan, I thought it would be nice to explore another city without changing hotels. Plus, Daegu is the hometown of two BTS members—Min Yoongi / Suga / Agust D (my bias wrecker) and Kim Taehyung / V.

The KTX made the trip manageable, and I could start my day at Dongdaegu Station, which is also where I boarded the city tour bus.

I wanted to make the most of my limited time, so instead of planning individual routes to different attractions, I opted for the city tour. It gave me a convenient way to see different parts of Daegu while enjoying the scenery along the way.

Exploring Daegu by City Tour Bus

One of the first things I noticed was the open-top, double-decker-style tour bus, with rows of bright red seats. It was a fun way to see the city, especially with the clear skies and autumn colors around Daegu.

I started at Dongdaegu Station, where the downtown circulation route begins. The bus operates on a hop-on, hop-off basis, so you can get off at selected stops, explore, and board another bus later using the same day's ticket.

How much is the Daegu City Tour Bus?

The current standard fare listed by the official Daegu City Tour website is:
  • Adults: ₩10,000
  • Teenagers: ₩8,000
  • Children, seniors aged 65 and above, eligible persons with disabilities, and eligible national merit recipients: ₩6,000

Eligible passengers with a same-day train ticket can receive a discounted fare of ₩8,000 for adults. Bring your KTX ticket with you and confirm the applicable discount when purchasing your pass.

You can either book through Klook to avail of discounts, but tickets for the circulation route can also be purchased from the driver on the day of your trip, subject to availability. Cash, credit cards, and transportation cards are listed as accepted payment methods. Boarding is on a first-come, first-served basis, and standing passengers are not permitted when the bus is full.

Daegu City Tour Bus schedule and stops

The downtown circulation course operates from approximately 9:30 AM to 5:50 PM, with departures from Dongdaegu Station listed hourly from 9:30 AM through 3:30 PM. Traffic can affect arrival times, so leave some flexibility in your itinerary.

The official route includes these stops:
  1. Dongdaegu Station - the starting and ending point
  2. Kim Gwang-seok-gil Street - a street dedicated to the beloved Korean singer-songwriter
  3. Dongseong-ro / Jungangno Station - a central shopping and city area
  4. Modern Culture Alley - a historic area of Daegu
  5. Seomun Market / Cheongna Hill Station - a traditional market and historic neighborhood
  6. Duryu Park / E-World - a park and amusement park area
  7. Apsan Sunset Observatory
  8. Apsan Park / Apsan Observatory
  9. Gosangol Dinosaur Park / Metasequoia Road
  10. Suseongmot Lake
  11. Daegu Art Museum - check current route and stop availability before visiting
  12. Dongchon Resort

The full loop is useful for getting an overview of Daegu, but you probably won't have time to explore every stop in depth during a day trip. I recommend choosing a few places that interest you most rather than trying to get off everywhere.

Daegu in Autumn

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons to visit South Korea, so I especially enjoyed seeing Daegu dressed in its fall colors. Even while riding between stops, there was plenty to look at through the open sides of the bus.

The streets were lined with trees turning shades of orange, red, and yellow. Some roads had rows of colorful foliage stretching into the distance, while parks offered a mix of autumn trees, green spaces, and walking paths.

I also spotted stretches of landscaped parkland, flowering plants, and open views of the city. The scenery changed as the bus moved through different neighborhoods, which made the journey feel like more than just transportation between attractions.

One of my favorite things about exploring South Korea in autumn is that even an ordinary commute can turn into a photo opportunity. Daegu was no exception.

A Preview of Daegu

The bus gave me a chance to appreciate Daegu's mix of urban scenery and green spaces. I photographed the city streets, modern buildings, landscaped areas, and autumn trees from different angles.

There were also views of Daegu's skyline, including the distinctive tower rising above the trees. Seeing the city from the bus offered a different perspective from exploring on foot.

Since these photos were taken along my city tour, they capture the parts of Daegu I saw during the ride and at the stops I visited, rather than a complete guide to everything the city has to offer.

Getting around Daegu

If you want to visit places beyond the circulation route, Daegu also has a metro and local bus network. You can use these to explore areas that aren't convenient for your chosen city tour schedule.

For a first visit with limited time, though, the Daegu city tour bus can be a practical starting point. Just remember that the bus follows a set route and timetable, so plan your stops around the time of the next departure.

TIPS

1. Take an early KTX.
You'll have more time to explore before the last city tour departures.

2. Check the bus timetable before leaving Busan.
The circulation route generally operates Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays and certain holidays.

3. Bring your same-day train ticket.
You may qualify for the Daegu city tour buscity tour bus discount.

4. Choose your stops in advance.
The route covers several parts of Daegu, but a day trip won't allow for a long visit at every stop.

5. Dress for the weather.
If you're riding an open-top bus, bring a light jacket in autumn and prepare for wind or rain.

6. Allow extra time for traffic.
The published timetable may be delayed, so avoid booking a return train too close to your planned finish.

7. Check the current route and fares.
Stops, operating hours, and ticket conditions can change. Use the official Daegu City Tour website for the latest details.

My Take

Since I was staying in Busan, taking a day trip to Daegu was a convenient way to see another side of South Korea without having to pack up and move to another hotel. The KTX journey was manageable, and the city tour bus helped me get a feel for Daegu without having to plan every transfer myself.

I especially loved seeing the autumn foliage along the streets and parks. Sometimes, the best part of a trip isn't just reaching a particular attraction, but also taking in the scenery along the way.

If you're staying in Busan for a few days and want to add another city to your itinerary, Daegu is worth considering. Just start early, check the latest city tour schedule, and choose the stops that matter most to you.
