Coffee, cake, railway tracks, and a beautiful afternoon in one of Seoul's most charming neighborhoods.
I've been visiting South Korea regularly, around two to three times a year, and one of the things I never get tired of is discovering cafés tucked away in Seoul's neighborhoods.
This time, I found myself in Ikseon-dong, a neighborhood I always enjoy exploring for its mix of traditional hanok architecture, trendy cafés, little shops, and restaurants.
One of the cafés that caught my attention was Nakwon Station (낙원역).
I've seen photos of this café's railway tracks before, and naturally, I had to see it for myself. What makes it stand out is the actual train-track-inspired layout running through the café, complete with gravel, greenery, and wooden architecture.
And if you happen to visit around golden hour, the place becomes even more beautiful. The sunlight filters through the open layout, reflecting across the tables, plants, and tracks.

Nakwon Station: A Café with Its Own Railway Tracks
One of the first things you'll notice about Nakwon Station is the railway track running right through the café.
Instead of the usual café layout with tables and chairs arranged across a single floor, the space features railway tracks surrounded by stones, plants, and wooden structures. The whole setup feels like a little train station tucked inside a traditional Seoul neighborhood.
It's such an interesting concept, especially in Ikseon-dong, where the neighborhood itself is known for combining traditional hanok architecture with contemporary cafés and restaurants.
I love how the railway tracks become part of the entire café experience. They're not just a decorative detail in one corner; they run through the space and naturally draw your attention as you walk around.
And, of course, they're also one of the most photographed spots in the café.
What I particularly liked about the space in my photos is how the greenery softens the wooden interiors and railway-inspired design. It has a warm, almost whimsical atmosphere that fits right into Ikseon-dong.
If you're visiting Seoul and enjoy café hopping, this is definitely the kind of place that's worth adding to your list, especially if you enjoy unique interiors as much as your coffee.
Nakwon Station During Golden Hour
If there's one thing I would recommend about visiting Nakwon Station, it's to go in the late afternoon.
I absolutely love how the sunlight reflects throughout the café in these photos. The open layout allows the natural light to come through, creating these beautiful warm tones across the wood, plants, and railway tracks.
It's the kind of lighting that makes you want to sit down, enjoy your coffee slowly, and take a few more photos before leaving.
The greenery also looks particularly beautiful with the warm light coming through. There's something about the combination of the plants, the wooden structures, and the tracks that makes the whole space feel so inviting.
I think this is one of the reasons Nakwon Station became such a popular photo spot in Ikseon-dong.
It's not just about having a unique railway theme. The natural light and open layout make the space feel different depending on the time of day.
For me, golden hour was definitely one of the highlights of this visit.
If you're planning to take photos, I'd suggest arriving in the late afternoon rather than rushing in and out during the middle of the day. Just keep in mind that the lighting will vary depending on the weather and season.
Coffee, Desserts, and What to Order
Of course, I couldn't visit a café like this without ordering something!
The coffee and dessert were a big part of the experience, and I love how the presentation in my photos fits the café's overall aesthetic.
The drinks were served on black trays, with the desserts arranged alongside them. Against the warm wooden interiors and greenery, everything looked so photogenic.
It's the kind of café where you can easily end up taking photos of your order before actually enjoying it.
But if you're visiting Nakwon Station for the first time, there are a few signature items worth looking out for:
- Maple Cream Coffee / Coal Coffee (Signature drink)
One of the café's signature coffee options, featuring espresso, milk, and maple-flavored cream. A good option if you enjoy creamy coffee drinks. - Peanut Cream Latte
Another popular drink to look for if you prefer something creamy and slightly nutty rather than a regular latte. - Green Grass Cake or Earl Grey Chocolate Cake
For dessert, look out for the Green Grass Cake, with green-tea flavors, or the Earl Grey Chocolate Cake. Both have been featured among the café's popular desserts.
One more thing to look out for is the café's dessert conveyor belt, which fits perfectly with the railway concept. It's a fun detail to check out when you're there.
For first-time visitors, I'd recommend checking the available cakes and drinks when you arrive, especially if you're visiting specifically for a particular menu item.

- The nearest subway station is Jongno 3-ga Station (종로3가역), served by Lines 1, 3, and 5.
- Take the subway to Jongno 3-ga Station.
- Use Exit 4 as a convenient starting point for exploring Ikseon-dong.
- Walk through the neighborhood's narrow streets and use the café's Google Maps pin to navigate the final stretch.
The café is tucked into the neighborhood's smaller streets, so it's worth keeping the map open rather than relying solely on the main road.
By taxi or ride-hailing
You can show the driver the café's Korean name, 낙원역, or the address above. If you're already exploring Ikseon-dong, it's easy to combine the café with a walking route around the neighborhood.
A FEW TIPS FOR VISITING NAKWON STATION
1. Check the café location before exploring Ikseon-dong
Nakwon Station is tucked inside the narrow lanes of Ikseon-dong, one of Seoul's popular hanok neighborhoods known for its cafés, restaurants, and shops. It's easy to combine with an afternoon of wandering around the area rather than making a separate trip just for the café.
2. Go around golden hour if you want the prettiest photos
This is probably my biggest tip. The open layout, greenery, wood, and glass windows look especially beautiful when the late-afternoon sunlight comes in. You can really see the warm light reflecting throughout the café in my photos.
If photography is part of your visit, I'd time it around late afternoon into golden hour rather than going in the middle of the day.
3. Don't leave without checking out the train tracks
The railway track running through the café is what makes Nakwon Station so recognizable — and naturally, it's also one of the most photographed spots.
Just be mindful when taking photos because the tracks and gravel make some parts of the floor uneven. Be considerate of other customers, too, especially when the café is busy.
4. Order one of the signature drinks and a dessert
If you're wondering what to order, look out for the Maple Cream Coffee or Coal Coffee, and the Peanut Cream Latte. For dessert, check whether the Green Grass Cake or Earl Grey Chocolate Cake is available.
The menu and prices can change, so check what's currently available when you visit.
5. Look for the dessert conveyor belt
Another fun detail for first-time visitors is the café's dessert conveyor belt. Instead of simply choosing from a static display, you can see the desserts moving along the track — which fits perfectly with the whole railway theme.
6. Take your time exploring Ikseon-dong before or after your coffee
I wouldn't rush straight in and out of Nakwon Station. Ikseon-dong is made up of narrow hanok-lined lanes filled with cafés, restaurants, and small shops, so part of the fun is simply wandering around and seeing what catches your eye.

My Take
I've been to Seoul quite a few times now, but I still enjoy discovering places that offer something a little different from the usual café experience.
Nakwon Station is one of those places where the interiors are just as much a part of the visit as the coffee and dessert.
The railway tracks, greenery, wooden structures, and especially the golden-hour lighting made this café such a lovely stop during my time in Ikseon-dong.
And as someone who loves both travel and photography, I appreciate places like this where you can simply sit down, enjoy a drink, and still have so many little details worth capturing.
