Twenty years of music, one iconic album, and a night filled with songs I grew up listening to. NINA XX: The Anniversary Celebration – The Repeat brought NINA back to the stage for another celebration of Nina Live! and her incredible run of soulful, emotional songs.

About the show
Due to the overwhelming success of her first anniversary show, The Philippines' Soul Siren, NINA (Nina Girado), celebrated her 20th anniversary, NINA XX, for the second time.
The Repeat was a night of covers, NINA originals, and familiar songs that have become part of her repertoire. The show also featured guest performances with Thor Dulay, Christian Bautista, and Top Suzara of Freestyle.
The concert moved through different musical moods, from big vocal moments and soulful ballads to more intimate performances. From the photos I took, what stood out to me was how much the stage lighting added to the mood of each song, from the dramatic opening with smoke and blue lighting to the warmer amber and purple tones later in the show.

The show was divided into several sets, covering songs from NINA's influences, favorite songs, original material, and some of her most familiar hits.

Concert Highlights
One of the highlights of the night was seeing NINA share the stage with three familiar names in OPM and Philippine music: Thor Dulay, Christian Bautista, and Top Suzara of Freestyle.
NINA and Thor Dulay performed 'The Closer I Get to You' (Roberta Flack cover) and 'Whenever You Call' (Mariah Carey), giving the audience a couple of beautiful duet moments early in the show.
She later shared the stage with Christian Bautista for 'Burn' (Tina Arena) and 'Cool With You' (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Both are songs that really suit the kind of powerful, emotional vocals NINA is known for, so seeing the two of them perform together was definitely one of the moments I was looking forward to.
Another familiar voice joined NINA later in the show was Top Suzara of Freestyle. They performed 'Constantly' and 'Before I Let You Go' (Freestyle), bringing a little bit of that classic '90s/'00s OPM nostalgia to the concert.
Having three different guest artists throughout the show also gave the concert some variety. Each duet had its own feel, while still fitting naturally into a celebration of NINA's music and influences.

A Few Notes...
I think what makes anniversary concerts like this special is getting to hear songs that have been around for years in a live setting again.
Nina Live! was released two decades ago, but the songs from that era still have a very familiar place in OPM and in the memories of listeners who grew up with them. Watching NINA perform songs from different points in her career also made the 20-year celebration feel more personal.
For me, the photos tell a lot of the story. From the dramatic opening with smoke and the diamond visual to the blue, purple, and amber lighting later in the show, the production gave me plenty of moments to capture.
And of course, there is something satisfying about photographing a vocalist whose performances are so closely tied to big, emotional songs. Even from behind the camera, you can feel when a song is building toward that big vocal moment.
