Presented by Karpos Multimedia and Ayala Malls, the run hit several shopping centers from North to South—turning standard weekend retail spaces into sweaty, high-energy indie-pop sanctuaries.
What Happened
Back in August 2017, Paul Klein, Les Priest, and Jake Goss returned to Manila following their successful stint earlier that year at Wanderland. Instead of a traditional single-venue concert, they opted for an intensive mall tour circuit across select Ayala Malls (including Glorietta, Alabang Town Center, and TriNoma). Fans didn’t just buy standard tickets online; access was tied to redeeming cinema gift cards or shopping receipts from the malls. It was chaotic, intensely hyped, and proved just how massive their local fanbase had grown even before their debut self-titled album fully dropped.
What I Experienced
If you managed to brave the lines and score a wristlet, stepping into an activity center like Glorietta meant getting squished shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of other fans. The energy was palpable from the ground floor up to the topmost railings of the mall.
When the lights dimmed and the band walked out, the noise level was deafening—the kind of piercing, collective scream that only a Filipino crowd can pull off. Paul Klein, wearing his signature minimalist style, took his place by the keyboard and mic stand. From the very first opening chords of Dumb Stuff, the entire atrium transformed. People were holding up their phones, recording through gaps in the crowd, crying, and screaming every single lyric. During Pink Skies, fans famously brought out pink lights and phone screens to flood the venue. Looking back, the 2017 Ayala Malls tour captures a very specific lightning-in-a-bottle moment that modern touring rarely replicates. There is an undeniable charm—and a bit of madness—about seeing an international band perform surrounded by retail shops where shoppers on the third-floor balcony are just leaning over the glass to see what all the commotion is about. Sure, your feet hurt from standing on hard mall tiles for hours, and the humidity inside a packed atrium was no joke, but the raw intimacy of it all outweighed the discomfort. You were right there, inches away from the band, before stadium lights and massive LED screens distanced everyone from the stage.
